Limonium perezii – Sea Lavender
Bring lasting colour and texture to your garden with the hardy Limonium perezii. This striking perennial forms neat clumps of broad, leathery leaves and sends up strong stems topped with clouds of tiny lavender-purple flowers surrounded by papery calyces. The blooms hold their colour for months, creating a beautiful haze in borders or cutting gardens and are excellent for both fresh and dried arrangements.
Growing Conditions
Sea Lavender thrives in full sun and well-drained soil. It is exceptionally drought-tolerant once established, making it ideal for South African coastal or water-wise gardens. Salt spray and wind are no problem, so it performs well in seaside beds and rockeries.
Planting & Care
Plant in a sunny position, spacing clumps about 40 cm apart. Water regularly until established, then only during extended dry spells. Remove spent flower stalks to encourage fresh blooms and maintain a tidy shape. A light application of balanced fertiliser in spring will promote vigorous growth and abundant flowering.
Landscape Uses
Perfect for coastal gardens, mixed borders, and low-maintenance landscapes. The long-lasting blooms are superb for cut flowers and everlasting arrangements, adding a unique textural element indoors or out.
