Delicate Beauty with a Two-Tone Twist
The Pillu Clematis, also known as ‘Little Duckling’, brings a delightful splash of colour and character to your garden with its compact size and uniquely two-toned flowers. Each bloom features soft pink petals edged in pale blush, accented with a darker rose-pink central bar and prominent cream stamens. Flowering generously from spring to early autumn, this charming clematis adds a whimsical, romantic touch to any sunny or semi-shaded space.
Compact Climber for Small Gardens and Containers
Growing to just 1.2 to 1.8 metres, the Pillu Clematis is the perfect choice for patios, balconies, courtyards, and smaller trellises or obelisks. Despite its compact habit, it flowers prolifically, making it a fantastic option for gardeners with limited space. It thrives in full sun to part shade, and like all clematis, it prefers its roots cool and shaded, so be sure to mulch or plant low-growing companions around its base.
Easy Pruning for Repeat Blooms
Belonging to Pruning Group 2, Pillu offers repeat flowering on both old and new growth. Lightly prune after the first flowering flush in late spring, and again in late winter (July–August) to shape the plant and remove any weak or dead stems. With this simple care, you’ll enjoy two rounds of beautiful blooms throughout the season.
A Versatile Performer in South African Conditions
Pillu adapts well to a variety of South African climates and thrives in well-drained soil with moderate water. Its smaller size and showy flowers make it an excellent choice for vertical accents, container gardens, or growing through small shrubs. Whether you’re an urban gardener or a collector of clematis varieties, Pillu adds compact beauty and abundant colour with minimal fuss.
