Lavender Stoechas. This is a fast growing lavender which flowers throughout the year. The blue purple flowers smell divine and are excellent for cutting and drying – for example for linen sachets and potpourris and to scent your room.
A species of flowering plant in the family Lamiaceae, occurring natively in several Mediterranean countries, including France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Turkey and Greece
The plants do best in a well drained soil in a sunny part of your garden.
If you’re preparing the flowers for drying, cut them whilst fresh and hang them upside down to dry.Excellent also in pots, as a low hedge or in sunny dry spots in your garden. A Mediterranean inspired garden choice and very pretty when planted amongst ornamental grasses and in natural or formal gardens.

Rosa (pink) everflowering multiflora
Raithby, WC
This garden variety of Rosa Multiflora produces a continuous spectacle of flowers throughout the year and is commonly known in the Cape as Seven Sisters, a rose that had long been cultivated in Japanese and Chinese gardens before it was introduced to Britain at the start of the 19th century. However it is not the same as the Seven Sisters in Britain, so is therefore still remaining as an unidentified form of Rosa Multiflora.
It has a carefree growth and is a vigorous rambler that can grow to 3-5m high … and generous production of flowers, which have a very lovely sweet fragrance.
The newly opened flowers are dark shocking pink, and the older flowers almost white, so there is always a variety of shades on the plant, especially as the flowers are long lived.

Phlomis russeliana
Raithby, WC
Phlomis russeliana (Jerusalum sage, Turkish sage)
This lovely plant brings interest to the garden all year round, and is one of my favourite plants.
First it has the flower buds and the resultant beautiful flowers, and then the architectural seed heads throughout Autumn.
It’s an evergreen perennial which likes full sun but will appreciate some partial shade during hot summer afternoons.
The yellow hooded flowers are in clusters well above the basal foliage which remains as a low ground covering mound.
The ornamental seed heads are a great food source for birds. It is an excellent choice for cottage gardens, dry sunny borders, wild gardens and meadows.
