Add a Burst of Elegant Colour to Your Garden
Clematis ‘Venosa Violacea’ is a striking and reliable perennial deciduous climber that brings a burst of colour to trellises, arches, and fences. This beautiful variety is renowned for its velvety purple petals adorned with a bold white central stripe, creating a dramatic two-tone effect that stands out in any garden. Perfect for South African gardeners, it thrives in well-drained soil with roots kept cool and shaded while the vine enjoys full sun to light shade.
Growing to a mature height of around 2–3 metres, ‘Venosa Violacea’ is ideal for smaller spaces where you still want a lush vertical display. It clings by leaf stalks, making it easy to train up supports or through shrubs and small trees. Its medium-sized flowers, approximately 8–10 cm across, appear in abundance from mid-spring through early autumn, ensuring months of colour in your garden.
This clematis belongs to pruning group 3, meaning it flowers on the current season’s growth. For best results, prune back hard in late winter to about 30–45 cm above the ground, just above a pair of healthy buds. Regular feeding during the growing season will keep the flowers coming and the foliage fresh and healthy.
Whether used to soften structures, intermingle with roses, or create a vibrant backdrop, Clematis ‘Venosa Violacea’ is a true showstopper. Its long flowering season, unique colouring, and manageable size make it a perfect choice for both beginner and experienced gardeners looking to add vertical charm to their outdoor spaces.
2-year-old plants are in the 23cm pots. Please note that the plants will not necessarily have flowers on when shipped.
Plants will be sent without their stakes so that the height of the packaging can be reduced. Every package will be sent with growing and pruning instructions.
