It has a medium to high water requirement and will grow into a medium to large tree. Be aware where you plant it, as it’s water seeking roots, will find sewers and pipes. This tree can live to 30 years, and is fast growing. Deciduous.

A small and compact deciduous shrub with reddish-purple foliage and lace-cap (lacecap) heads of pale blue sterile flowers surrounding deeper blue fertile ones. (or pink coloured flowers. The light green leaves will turn red purple in the sun.
Flowering in late Spring early summer. This is why it’s known as a Christmas Rose in South Africa. Or hortensia for Europeans.
Deciduous, flowers Nov-Mar (eventual height approx 1 – 1.5 m).
Moist soils and semi or full shade.
