Phlomis russeliana
Raithby, WC
Phlomis russeliana (Jerusalum sage, Turkish sage)
This lovely plant brings interest to the garden all year round, and is one of my favourite plants.
First it has the flower buds and the resultant beautiful flowers, and then the architectural seed heads throughout Autumn.
It’s an evergreen perennial which likes full sun but will appreciate some partial shade during hot summer afternoons.
The yellow hooded flowers are in clusters well above the basal foliage which remains as a low ground covering mound.
The ornamental seed heads are a great food source for birds. It is an excellent choice for cottage gardens, dry sunny borders, wild gardens and meadows.

Leonotis Leonurus orange
Raithby, WC
The bush is comprised of mostly erect branched stems topped with multiple ball-shaped inflorescences which bear the nectar-rich flowers – sunbirds love them. They also attract honey bees and other beneficial insects.
The Bush Bronze butterfly (Cacyreus lingeus Fam: Lycenidae) uses this plant as one of its larval food plants.
The generic name Leonotis is derived from the Greek words leon meaning lion and –otis meaning ear. This refers to the pubescent upper lip of each flower that resembles a lion’s ear, hence the vernacular name. The specific epithet leonurus means lion-coloured, a reference to the flower colour of some forms.

White Cream Canna plant
Raithby, WC
White Cream Canna;
Is a tropical plant known for its large creamy-white flowers that bloom above its lush foliage. They are well suited to South African gardens, performing particularly well in summer rainfall regions and coastal climates, while also adapting successfully to regular watering in drier areas. This plant is a great addition to any garden where it can showcase its striking appearance.
