Deutzia pulchra

A graceful and reliable shrub, Deutzia pulchra is a stunning addition to any mixed border or cottage garden. In late spring to early summer, it bursts into masses of delicate bell-shaped, white star-shaped flowers sometimes with a pink flush, carried in arching clusters that cover the entire bush. These appear in slender, drooping clusters called panicles. The bloom time is typically late spring to early summer. The display is soft and elegant, providing a frothy contrast to bolder garden plants and bringing gentle movement to the garden.

This hardy deciduous shrub enjoys partial shade with a little sunshine and performs best in fertile, well-drained soil that’s kept evenly moist.

Prune lightly after flowering to maintain shape and encourage strong new growth for the following season. Keep in mind when pruning that blossoms will appear on old growth.
Deutzia pulchra tolerates light frost and is well suited to both coastal and inland South African gardens.

A superb choice for mixed shrub borders, woodland edges, or as a flowering hedge. Its long-lasting spring display and graceful habit make it a dependable performer in any garden style.
