Hydrangea serrata Grayswood
This is also one of my favourites : A small deciduous shrub with ovate leaves. Lace-cap flower-heads with blue central fertile florets surrounded by white sterile ones which turn with age to pink and crimson, flowering in late spring to summer – which is why it’s known as a Christmas Rose in South Africa. Or hortensia for Europeans.
Deciduous, flowers Nov-Mar (eventual height approx 1m).
The flowers are excellent for cutting
Half sun or shade.
Delicate flowers.
Add a touch of elegance and rich colour to shady garden spaces with Astilbe ‘Purpurkerze’. This striking perennial produces tall, upright plumes of deep rose-purple flowers held above attractive, finely divided, fern-like foliage. Flowering in summer, it brings height, texture and a beautiful splash of colour to shaded borders, woodland gardens and moist garden beds. Particularly lovely when planted in groups, where its feathery flower spikes create a soft, colourful display.
🌸 Flowering time: Early to midsummer
☀️ Position: Partial shade to full shade; morning sun is suitable in cooler areas. Grows best in part shade, will not flower well in dark shade.

📏 Mature size: Approximately 70–100 cm high and 40–60 cm wide

Catnip (Nepeta Cataria)
Catnip is a hardy perennial herb from the mint family, grown for its fragrant grey-green leaves and small white to pale pink purple flowers. Best known for its natural attraction to cats, the plant contains aromatic oils that stimulate playful behaviour in many felines.
Easy to grow in full sun and well-drained soil, Catnip is drought tolerant once established and attracts bees and other beneficial pollinators to the garden. Its leaves may be used fresh or dried in herbal teas and natural remedies. With its soft foliage and relaxed growth habit, Catnip is well suited to herb gardens, containers, and cottage-style planting.Well suited to South African growing conditions.
