Hydrangea serrata Grayswood
This is also one of my favourites : A small deciduous shrub with ovate leaves. Lace-cap flower-heads with blue central fertile florets surrounded by white sterile ones which turn with age to pink and crimson, flowering in late spring to summer – which is why it’s known as a Christmas Rose in South Africa. Or hortensia for Europeans.
Deciduous, flowers Nov-Mar (eventual height approx 1m).
The flowers are excellent for cutting
Half sun or shade.
Delicate flowers.
For sale in South Africa.
Geranium Maderense.
A robust but short lived biennial or perennial that grows up to 1.5m tall. Also known as Madeira Cranesbill or Giant Herb Robert.
Large clouds of white flowers 4cm diameter.
The plant is supposedly not fussy about soil, but it needs to be well drained.
Flowers in Spring. Prefers a partial shade position.
