Aloe Descoingsii

Conophytum uviforme is a small, winter-growing succulent native to the arid regions of the Northern Cape of South Africa and southern Namibia. The species name uviforme means “grape-shaped,” referring to its rounded bodies that resemble tiny grapes.

Characteristics:

• Forms dense clusters of small, rounded to slightly elongated bodies.
• Bodies are typically green, grey-green, bluish-green, or sometimes reddish when exposed to strong light.
• The surface may be smooth or finely spotted, depending on the variety.
• Produces attractive flowers in autumn, commonly yellow, pink, purple, or white.
• Over time, forms large cushion-like clumps.

Cultivation:

• Winter-growing and summer-dormant.
• Requires excellent drainage and a mineral-rich growing medium.
• Water lightly during the active growing season (autumn to spring).
• Keep nearly dry during summer dormancy.
• Prefers bright light and good air circulation.

Euphorbia abdelkuri is a rare and highly collectible succulent admired for its smooth grey-blue stems and unusual sculptural growth. This slow-growing species develops upright branching stems covered in a waxy coating that protects it from harsh sunlight and extreme drought. Its almost otherworldly appearance makes it a standout specimen in succulent and Euphorbia collections. It prefers warm temperatures, bright indirect light to full sun, and very well-draining soil.

Interesting Fact:
The pale ghostly colour of Euphorbia abdelkuri is caused by a protective wax layer that helps reflect intense desert sunlight and reduce water loss in its natural habitat.

Original Habitat:
Native to Abd al Kuri Island, part of the Socotra archipelago near Yemen, where it grows in extremely dry, rocky desert conditions.
