Plant it in acidic, well-draining soil enriched with compost, and keep roots cool and moist with mulch—especially important in hotter South African climates. They don’t like their roots being disturbed. Avoid limy or alkaline conditions for best results. They like frequent feeding and weekly watering.

‘Alba’ performs best in cooler, mist-belt or high-altitude gardens in South Africa, particularly in KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, parts of the Western Cape, and other areas with moist, temperate conditions. It’s happiest in dappled shade or morning sun with protection from harsh midday rays. When planted in the right spot, it rewards with bright colour, tidy form, and reliable winter flowering, making it a prized addition to any garden that values seasonal beauty.
