Oakleaf hydrangea
An unusual hydrangea not often found. Oak leaf shaped leaves, deeply lobed, dark green – they turn a red colour in autumn. The flower heads appear from midsummer through to autumn. Flowers open as white but fade to pink and violet.

This is also one of my favourites : A small deciduous shrub with ovate leaves. Lace-cap flower-heads with blue central fertile florets surrounded by white sterile ones which turn with age to pink and crimson, flowering in late spring to summer – which is why it’s known as a Christmas Rose in South Africa. Or hortensia for Europeans.

The flowers are excellent for cutting
